Verhovski x Majouga is an electronic music duo formed by Ukrainian poet and musician Sergii Verhovskyi and Russian artist and musician Arsenii Majouga during spring 2022 in Tbilissi, a city they’ve both reached at the time in order to get away from the war in Ukraine.
They’re now based in Marseille, and blend lyrical and electronic improvisations during live acts, which navigate between various styles as acid, breakbeat, techno, idm … along with grime-ish ukrainian lyrics.
About ZARAZ
“This release was recorded at different times and in different countries: France, Czech Republic, and Georgia. In a way, it's our diary from autumn 2022 to summer 2023, where we captured our emotions, hopes, etc.
"Do Gory" was composed in Georgia in 2022, in a trance style, initially a dance floor banger, but in France, it took on a more lo-fi techno sound.
"Ale My Ne Zlamani" was also made in Georgia, initially as a joke to thump the bass for the dancing crowd.
"Trymai" was recorded remotely when Sergii was living in Prague. Here, we ventured into old school, experimenting with breaks and vocal shots.
"Vyishov Sukhym Iz Vody" was recorded when we both settled in France. It's like a sigh of relief, finally finding our country where we feel at home, with more southern vibes and tranquility, at last.”
The artwork is a reproduction of Cnidaires & crinières n° IX (fusain sur Arches, 21x21cm, 2024) by Iranian artist Haleh Zahedi.
Haleh Zahedi was born in 1982 in Tehran, where she attended workshops with renowned drawing masters from the age of 15. She moved to France in 2008 and participated in numerous exhibitions across Europe, as well as contributing to the creation of several artist books. Alongside her artistic endeavors, she conducted academic research and earned a Ph.D. in Visual Arts from the University of Strasbourg in 2018. Since 2022, she has been living and working in Brussels.
The Cnidaires & crinières series, started in 2024, offer variations around the theme of the jellyfish. A peculiar creature devoid of a skeleton that, beyond its fascinating form, suggests multiple metaphors. The jellyfish brings together transparency, folds, and tentacular or rhizomatic forms, which are present in the majority of the artist's drawings.
