"Bintje" is a journey through the landscapes that surround Knut Vandekerkhove's childhood memories. Most of these memories are located on the Belgian border, where the village of Bachy is located, where the author grew up. A village surrounded by potato fields, by Bintjes, the best potatoes for making French fries. Along this border, there are numerous nightclubs, dance venues, that come to life every weekend and radically change the usually peaceful countryside soundscape with hardstyle, trance, and techno music.
"La Drache" tries to capture the unique atmosphere brought about by the rainy episodes that continuously water the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, so distinctive that they have their own name.
"Le Chemin de la Vierge Bleue" recreates the feeling of speed that the author experienced when racing down that gravel path on his childhood bicycle, with fully inflated tires on the gravel producing an exhilarating rhythm, throwing pebbles on either side of the path.
"Les Fêtes de Gayant" is an imaginary mash-up between the music emanating from the beffroi of Douai, Knut's birthplace, and the echoes of the "ducasse" (carnival) that takes place every year during "Les fêtes de Gayant" (Gayant festival), where the modernity of the music diffused by the fair blends with the traditional carillon player's melodies.
"La Maison du Pendu" was an abandoned house in the middle of the fields, where Knut would go after school to scare himself. The hoovers and the theme of the piece aim to convey the mix of excitement and fear that filled the heart of this young boy when he visited that place. BOO!
